What is an Avatar?
Avatar is the personalised graphical representation or rendering that represents you online. Avatar pronounced [av-err-tarr], is your persona in picture form. For example my Avatar is the picture I use on Facebook, Twitter and on this blog.
It’s the personal picture you have on Twitter, LinkedIn, blogs, website profile, forums and so on. The standard size image is around 80x80 to 85x85 pixels, often containing the person, logo or item representing the owner of the Avatar, what they do and who they are. Letting you get to know them and how they want to portray them self to you.
There are only a small percentage of online users without Avatars these days and their number are shrinking. I am sure if you look at your friends list on any of the popular social media websites you will find only a handful that actually has an Avatar on their profile.
Where will you see Avatars online?
- Every social media site (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook at al..)
- Internet forums (Business forums, social forums)
- Blogs (Both as Blogger and blog commentator)
- Website profile (Business profile or other)
- Online direct messaging programs like (MSN, Yahoo messenger at al..)
